40% of Australia's emissions stem from decisions made around the kitchen table.
It’s how we power our homes, how we heat and cool them, how we cook and our transport.
Fully electrifying our households is key to reducing our carbon footprint.
Electrifying the essentials
We want to encourage those who can, and support those who can't, to electrify six key things:
Hot water
Indoor heating and cooling
Stove top
Rooftop solar
Battery storage
Your transport
Whether you live in an apartment or a house, we want to connect you with the solutions for you and your neighbours.

Electrify Canberra has its roots in Saul Griffith's inspiring vision of Suburb Zero. We know Canberrans are eager to join the rapidly growing movement to 'electrify everything'.
Our strength lies in the connections we share with our neighbours. We know our communities hold incredible power and resilience. We want to make it easier for people to electrify their homes and bring everyone along.
By electrifying Canberra we can ease the cost of living and take meaningful climate action.
Run by local volunteers.
Our community is grassroots grown and fuelled entirely by people power!

Everyone in the community can replace gas and grid electricity with cheap, locally produced solar. To make this work, all households need to sign up to an electricity retailer that is participating in a pilot. The retailer will offer reduced bills, regardless of how much rewiring a household is able to participate in.

Electrifying your home will not only slash emissions, but it will save households money on energy bills. By 2030, an electrified household will save an average of $5,000 per year on their energy and fuel costs. Currently, lower-income homes spend nearly double their earnings on energy costs.

Ideally, no. The sooner you electrify your home, the sooner you will start to save money. Equipment such as solar panels are proven to pay off their installation cost in the first 2-4 years, and they provide free electricity for well over 10 years.
